MENTOR A PROMISE
Bright future starts here
We are a nonprofit organization helping NYC youths and families break the cycle of homelessness by illuminating paths to education and success.

Our Story
At Mentor A Promise, our story is one of purpose and determination. We were founded with a clear mission: to support youths and families living in NYC shelters and break the cycle of homelessness.
From the very beginning, we recognized the immense potential within each individual and sought to provide them with the educational resources and opportunities needed to succeed. Through partnerships with family shelters, educational institutions, and community organizations, we have built a strong network that supports youths experiencing homelessness and helps them to overcome adversity and forge their own path towards a brighter future.

Leadership
Beranobel Melo
Founder and CEO
Beranobel founded Mentor A Promise with a single, unwavering belief: that every child—no matter their circumstances—deserves to be seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. While working in New York City’s shelter system, Beranobel came face to face with the heartbreaking realities of homelessness. But what struck him most wasn’t just the hardship—it was the potential. He saw young people bursting with dreams but weighed down by barriers they didn’t create. He saw families fighting for stability in a system that too often failed them. And he knew something had to change. Fueled by purpose and the love and encouragement of his family and friends, Beranobel turned that conviction into action. He created Mentor A Promise to be more than a program—it’s a lifeline. A community. A place where students are reminded that they matter, that their dreams are valid, and that someone will walk beside them, no matter what. Through education, mentorship, and heartfelt connection, Beranobel and the Mentor A Promise team are rewriting the narrative for youth experiencing homelessness—proving that with the right support, a promise can become a future.
